2006 Monarchia Chardonnay Battonage wins Prestige Reserve Prize
Hungary’s Top Wines – Prestige Reserve - TriumVinátus (TriumVinate)
On December 10, 2008, the high-end, exclusive Italian ristorante Osteria Fausto hosted the second annual ceremony of Prestige Reserve prizes presented by the Prestige Reserve Club and Tonella Bormagazin (Wine Magazine). The event organizers also announced the TriumVinátus Kupa (TriumVinate Cup) winners, Hungary’s top wines entitled to the honorary 2008 Prestige Reserve trademarks.
It was in December of 2007 that the Prestige Reserve trademarks, protected by the European Union, were first awarded to those Hungarian wines that were found worthy of this honor. In multiple rounds of evaluations during the course of the year 2008, as few as 49 of the total of 150 wines that had been nominated by numerous domestic wineries received this accolade founded by the Prestige Reserve Club and Tonella Bormagazin (Wine Magazine).
The certificates that entitle the winners to bear such trademarks were presented by László Doszpod, CEO of Prestige Reserve Club; and Tonella’s editor-in-chief András István Kovács.
During the ceremony, László Doszpod and András István Kovács further announced the winners of the TriumVinátus Kupa (TriumVinate Cup), a new recognition initiated as of this year, as part of the Prestige Reserve Project, which is awarded to Hungary’s top wines in three designated categories.
In 2008, the 2006 Szent Tamás Furmint by István Szepsy and 2006 Rajnai Rizling (Rhein Riesling) by Szeremley Szőlőbirtok (Vineyard) ranked first in the dry white wine category. Amongst the top reds nominated this year, the 2006 Regnum from Takler Pincészet (Cellars) triumphed. As for the best naturally sweet wines, István Szepsy’s 2003, 6 puttonyos aszú (6-bucket Aszú) was selected the winner.
At this year’s event, attended by MMI CEO Dorottya Szalay as well, it was no less than the owner of Monarchia Winery, Nimród Kovács himself, to accept the Prestige Reserve prize. And when it came to the top honor in the red wine category of the TriumVinátus Kupa (TriumVinate Cup), which was bestowed upon the 2006 Regnum from Takler Pincészet (Cellars), András Takler and Nimród Kovács jointly accepted the cup; no surprise as this prized wine is marketed exclusively by MMI. Ever since, MMI has been proudly displaying this trophy in its wineshop in Budapest.
