Egri Borok Gálája (Eger Wines’ Gala) – February 16, 2008

Mid-February will mark the second annual Egri Borok Gálája (Eger Wines’ Gala). This event, a brainchild of Egri Borvidékért Alapítvány (Foundation for the Eger Wine-region), is another milestone for the Eger wine-region on its road to recognition.

Having come to realize the power of joining forces in order to achieve the shared goals, the Eger wine region will represent itself in its entirety at this landmark event. To be held at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, on February 16, 2008, the gala will feature Eger’s twelve leading winemakers who will be personally showcasing the top wines from their respective wineries. What are the current winemaking trends in Eger? What it makes a grand Eger wine? What does the future hold for the wines of Eger? This year’s Egri Borok Gálája (Eger Wines’ Gala) will strive to answer these questions amongst many others.

In addition to samples of nearly half a hundred pre-judged wines, this event will also present a good opportunity for an informal conversation with the winemakers. Wine enthusiasts will have the pleasure to meet the members of the Borászválogatott (Winemakers’ Hall of Fame), selected annually in recognition of their premium-quality handcraftsmanship, including János Bolyki, Csaba Demeter, Dr. Tamás Pók, Lajos Gál, Jr. Tibor Gál, Attila Juhász, Imre Kaló, Zoltán Simkó, József Simon, Dr. György Lőrincz, Vilmos Thummerer and Béla Vincze.
