Our wineyards

Comprising a total of 35 hectares, our vineyards are planted east of Eger Creek, stretching over the scenic hillsides surrounding Eger and the town of Noszvaj. Our most treasured plantings of some ten hectares are atop Nagy Eged, the town’s “sacred hill” and are blessed with the most ideal terroir. An additional 25 hectares over the rolling hills of Nagyfai and Nyilasmár, on the outskirts of Noszvaj, are just starting to yield high quality fruit.
Monarchia plans to process grapes exclusively from its own plantings by the year 2010. Considering that the unique properties and the terroir of Eger best resemble those of Burgundy among the world’s top wine-regions, we realize that utmost emphasis needs to be given to the production of premium-quality wines made from the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varieties. Noted California viticulturist Markus Bokisch will supervise the re-grafting of our existing vines as well as guiding the process of planting new vines. Also, a veteran and expert in Pinot Noir, with extensive worldwide experience, California winemaker Kent Barthman, will provide indispensable assistance and valuable advice on the making of our wines.
